“O Sacrament Most Holy, O Sacrament Divine, All Praise and All Thanksgiving, Be Every Moment Thine.”

Bishop Joseph Strickland, of Tyler, Texas, encourages Catholics to “Ask yourself this question: What can I do to personally rekindle my amazement at the gift of the Real Presence?”

Servant of God, Carlo Acutis, pray for us! Discover the International Exhibition on the Miracles of the Eucharist devised and planned by Carlo at www.miracolieucaristici.org.

Source and Summit

A painting of our journey into
the life of Christ through the
sacrament of Holy Eucharist

By Gene McKelvey

Jesus

Souls, created by God, have a desire to return to that first intimacy. In the painting, we see the
fire of each soul, fueled by God’s grace, seeking our creator. In a world complicated by sin, our faults,
needs and gifts are drawn to the altar of divine love by Jesus’ sacred heart. Individually and as
community we come. Some focus on God. Worldly concerns pull others away. Words from the discourse
on the bread of life in the Gospel of St. John (JN 6:25-69) form the altar; where the bread and wine
become body and blood. This is a painting of the Mass, where Jesus calls us to come to Him; to
remember His passion, death and resurrection, to participate in Divine Liturgy, to eat the bread of life
and drink the cup of salvation.

The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life.” “For in the
blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church,
namely Christ himself, our Pasch.” Catechism of the Catholic Church 1324

The inspiration for this painting happened at Mass in the spring of 2013. The idea surprised me.
Over the years, I had done some pencil drawings, but it had been 30 years since my last painting. A
rough sketch was done in May, but more serious planning didn’t start until September. The actual
painting started in early December and the 24 one-foot square canvases were completed in March, 2014.

There were many inspired and emotional moments during this project. And special moments continue to grace this work. In August of 2014, Source and Summit was blessed by Bishop Richard Pates for a ministry of communicating the truth about the Blessed Sacrament. This and much more are shared on www.facebook.com/sourceandsummit.art. On this public Facebook page you

will enjoy original graphic designs featuring colorful images from the painting (like the one at right), and information about upcoming exhibits and events.

Source and Summit expresses many of my experiences, observations and feelings during the holy sacrament of the Mass. It is my hope that this expression will spark conversations and reflections which become part of your personal faith journey.                Gene McKelvey

We Invite You To Ponder These Beautiful Prayers

Stabat Mater Prayer for Artists

Dearest Lord, you have set aside a vocation for each of us. We ask you to guide those whom you have called to be artists to endeavor to participate in the renewal of beauty in our culture through the use of their vocation. We ask you for a renewal of a bond between the world of art and the world of faith.

May artists brave the culture and bring Christ to all God’s children through their gift, the gift of an artistic vocation. We thank you for the beauty of your creation and ask for your blessing upon all artists that they may awaken in all people a knowledge of your love and omnipotence. We love you God, and we praise you. Amen.

Prayer to Saint Catherine of Bologna

O incomparable Saint Catherine aflame with love for Christ Crucified, you merited in life the choicest favors, and after death, you continue to shine with many marvels. That your body for over five centuries remains incorrupt is undoubtedly a sign of the glorious power you have in Heaven. Protect me always from every danger to body and soul. I beg you to obtain for me from the Lord this favor.

May the fruit of your protection be for me a strong faith, a precise fulfillment of my Christian duties, a constant spirit of sacrifice, and above all, the purity of heart for whom is reserved eternal joy in the beatific vision of God. Amen.
